Since 2000, the number of alpaca farms
in the state has increased by amazing percentages. Growing from
just 17 AOBA Registered farms to over 75 AOBA farms. With this climb in numbers, we have
also recognized a need for increased education and association with
other farms for collective support and resources in the many areas
involved in the Alpaca Industry.
Most new alpaca breeders come from
non-farming backgrounds and the learning curve for caring for alpacas
can be a steep one when you are beginning your venture. Support
from other breeders can greatly reduce that curve.
Formed as a not-for-profit corporation
in 2004, IAOBA members had been meeting since 2003 at various farms
across the state. Recognizing the need for an organized affiliate,
we began the process of applying as an AOBA Affiliate and succeeded
in November of 2004.
IAOBA will work to increase education
about all aspects of the Alpaca Industry including education on
health and herd husbandry, fiber use, improvement of the alpaca
within our herds, education of the public on alpacas and many other
topics. Please feel free to contact any member in our roster for
more information on joining IAOBA.
Catch the fever and please join
us.
Respectfully,
IAOBA Board of Directors
